Women’s and men’s pelvic health relates to all areas involved with obstetrics (pregnancy), gynaecology and pelvic floor dysfunction and can help alleviate many problems both in and around the pelvis.
There is extensive research in to the effectiveness of physiotherapy in helping people manage and improve their pelvic floor related problems and is the ‘Gold Standard’ first line treatment for incontinence and prolapse.
Often pelvic problems are a result of the pelvic floor muscles becoming too weak, too tight or just unable to coordinate as they are designed too. This can lead to issues with continence but also constipation, pelvic pain (including PGP/SPD) and discomfort during intercourse.
An assessment by a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist can help determine what the pelvic floor muscles are doing and the best way forward for treatment. It isn’t always about the squeezing, sometimes our pelvic floor needs to learn to relax!
We are very aware of how sensitive the nature of some of these problems are which is why our services are highly discrete and totally confidential.
